Hair, considered.

About

Above Brighton's North Laine, one chair does all the talking.

Dawson Hair & Imaging is a private, appointment-only colour studio run by Chris Dawson — a Wella Professionals-trained colourist and K18 specialist with 20 years in the industry.  No team of six, no rota of stylists you've never met. Just Chris, your hair, and a view of North Laine that's genuinely hard to beat.

The work speaks for itself: precise cutting, vibrant colour, and balayage that grows out the way it should. Pricing is gender-neutral, the vibe is inclusive, and the goal every time is the same — you leave looking like the best version of yourself, not a stranger's idea of it.

Vision

Since opening on Trafalgar Street in 2017, Dawson Hair & Imaging has built its name the old-fashioned way — good colour, done properly, one client at a time. It's become one of Brighton's most recommended hair salons without ever chasing the title. Booking is simple by design: an online booking app and WhatsApp mean you can sort an appointment between meetings, not during a lunch break spent on hold. Cutting, colouring, balayage, men's and women's — it's all here, just without the salon circus around it.

Ethos

Great hair shouldn't come with a great markup. Dawson Hair & Imaging offers a bespoke, one-to-one service at prices that don't assume you're made of money — which might explain the steady stream of 5-star Google reviews. Everyone's welcome here, whatever your age or gender, and the studio's set up to fit around real life: online booking, WhatsApp, and virtual consultations when you can't make it in to chat first. There's a shop too, stocked with the products actually used in the chair — hair oils, masks, colour care — sold at RRP, because marking up your own aftercare felt a bit rich.

Experience

Chris Dawson has spent 20 years learning what actually works — and building a studio where you don't have to shout to be heard over a salon full of hairdryers. As a Wella Professionals-trained colourist and certified K18 specialist, he's built a reputation less on hype and more on results that hold up six weeks later. The studio itself is small on purpose: one chair, your hour, that view of North Laine doing some of the relaxing for you. It's a different way of doing a hair appointment — quieter, more personal, and it shows in the work.
